Week 1 - The Challenge II Tani vs Eric

One week down (actually 5 days) and we are progressing well. As well as can be expected after the first 5 days of completely changing our diets and getting back into serious training routines. When I say things are going well I mean we are both sticking to our guns and fighting the fight in our little competition.

Tani as always seems to thrive during these things and despite a lingering cold is easily staying strong without missing a beat in life or in her demeanor. I on the other hand seem to turn into a big cranky baby. I get very irritable as I struggle to find the right calorie balance to feel well. Additionally, after the 2 months I took off from any real training has added a new dimension to this as I am in much worse shape than I expected and have struggled through most of my workouts this week (but I did them:). And last but not least, not drinking beer which as everyone knows I love really throws me for a loop.

Anyway, that's enough whining. We are not going to take measurements this week as we are not sure how telling it will be. We expected results immediately because we had both taken full advantage of the holiday spirit (or is that spirits). I also expected again for things to take a while to feel right so it will be interesting to see the change from this week to next in our comments and then see the the calculable changes.

Below is our chart for the week with all of our workouts, food, liquids and comments (side notes: we each take a multi vitamin and omega 3 daily. AGF is Applegate Farms). Peace

Still not feeling great today.  I was so looking forward to yoga and was feeling great until I got called out by the gym nursery.  Once I returned, I had a hard time getting back into it.  Had a few moments when I craved something sweet, but I stuck to the plan.  Hoping I wake up feeling better tomorrow.
Slept restlessly last night but got up early feeling ok and hit the gym. Caught up with me later in the day and feeling tired and still a bit anxious this evening. Hopeful this will go away in the next day or so and I will start feeling energized. We shall see!

I was pretty tired today.  Isla has not been sleeping well, therefore I have not been sleeping well.  I also can’t seem to kick this little cold.  I have officially started my NYC half marathon training.  Today’s 4 mile run was 25 seconds faster than yesterday and I have lost 4 lbs.  I’m almost back to where I was at the end of November.  Seeing such quick results keeps me motivated and helps me work through my “weak moments” throughout the day.
Did not feel great all day. Sluggish and irritable. Sleeps continue to be restless. This is a complete about face from my normal diet with no dairy and no alcohol. Not to mention a huge decrease in calories which I think is the same mistake I made last year. I decided to up my calories just slightly (like last year) to see what happens. Little stuff like the extra serving of my side with tonights dinner and I will probably add either another egg or maybe a slice of cheese to my breakfast especially on the weekends when my exercise duration is at its greatest.

Comments

I was so tired and had a horrible headache and actually fell asleep after the gym. I felt a little light headed 45 mins into kickboxing class (I ate a good bfast before).  I thought about leaving class, but I couldn’t do it so I toughed it out for 15 more mins.  I am fairly certain this all has to do with this head cold I can’t kick.  Maybe I do need my wine?  Who knows.  Looking forward to yoga tomorrow.
Struggled on my run this morning but feeling much better physically tonight as I upped my calories just a bit. Still a little irritated as I am definitely missing the beer I love, especially as we sit here watching football playoffs. Psyched to have made it through the first weekend without giving in.
