Week 2 - The Challenge II Tani vs Eric

Here we are week 2 in the books. Time for some brutal honesty. I hate this shit. I can't stand being in such a routine when it comes to my life outside of running, especially when it comes to diet. I have no problem setting up a training routine and sticking to it but when it comes to food and drink my appetite is wide ranging and impulsive. To that end I have modified my plan. I am not giving up by any stretch, but I don't like being on edge the way I have been. This program in full swing has caused many restless nights of sleep and a fairly grumpy attitude when awake (Tani can attest). So revisions are simple. If I feel like I need to add a slice of cheese to my eggs, I am just going to do it. If I want a beer, I am going to drink it. If I want a beer every day (now that's more like it), then every day it is. Other than feeling like I was getting sick yesterday, I am now feeling well and confident about the next 2 weeks. I think Tani is worried. I can tell by the way she is kicking back toasting me with her cup of tea.

We did not take full measurements this week but to give you a sense of where we are.

In 12 days, Tani has gone from 131 lbs to 125 lbs. I have dropped to 166 lbs which is about where I usually walk around from the beefy 173+ I started at. So far we may be neck and neck on the numbers but I would say Tani is leading on attitude, toughness and commitment. She is my hero.

I felt strong and energized after 75 minutes of yoga.  This feeling lasted for most of the day.  Also happy because I dropped another 1/2 lb.  My jeans fit well again.  Super happy that Eric had beer.  He was less irritable and this gives me an advantage, lol :)
Increasing calories slightly, but I was still very anxious and I think I am coming to the realization that this diet in full swing is not good for me. It is driving me mad, so its time to make some slight adjustments.

I still have a bit of a headache, but it didn’t slow me down.  I was able to complete my 4 mile hill repeats faster than my 4 mile runs last week.  Feeling good and strong.  For the first time in a long time, I was not tired today.
I slept well and got in a nice run today. Feeling more normal. Stuck to the meal plan today but if I wanted something I decided to have it so my salad at lunch was a little bigger than usual and tonight I wanted beer again, so I had a few. In bed at 10 and looking forward to a good swim in the morning.

Felt really good after my workout today.  Eating lunch out was not a problem, but dinner was tough.  I really wanted to order a glass of wine.  I realized while bowling tonight that it was the first time I had bowled without drinking beer.  It just didn’t feel right!
Felt right on today. Great workout this morning and awesome day at work. Not to mention date night with Tani. I had the beer at bowling:) Feeling good right now with my revised plan and love being back to a regular run/workout routine. Hopefully I will escape the nasty flu going around.

Felt great all day despite the 5 am wake up call.  Had no problems eating lunch out again.  My biggest challenge is taking a rest day.  I know my body needs a break, but my mind won’t let it.

Woke up tired and sore.  I had a busy morning and didn’t leave myself much time for a workout.  I was scheduled to run 4 miles, but only had time for 3.  I felt like I cheated.  Tonight I cooked a dish that called for a cup of red wine so I opened a bottle and I went ahead and poured myself a glass too.  I had a few sips, and then a few sips with dinner.  I ended up only drinking half.  Looking forward to running outside tomorrow. The treadmill is so painful!
Exhausted today because I was up late after a couple of business functions last night. Still had a great workout on 5 hours sleep. If I can avoid the cold/flu running around here  all will be good.

It was challenging but it felt really good to run outside today.  I felt energized, but I started to feel really tired in the afternoon.  I know my body is screaming for a rest day.  12 straight days is a lot.
Not sure whats up today. Tired or getting sick but massive headache this morning but still managed to get in a decent run on a beautiful morning. Spent the later part of the evening drinking beer and watching football. Counter productive but worth it I think.

Did not work out today, but I did spend some time stretching.  My stomach was bothering me which is why I ate the Ezekial bread 3 times.  I’m happy I took a break.  I am now looking forward to my 4 mile speed workout tomorrow.
Felt great today. Good run in the morning and ate well today without stressing about it. Feeling positive about the week and revised strategy.
